Say sayonara to beachy hair and sun-kissed skin (at least for a few more months) – wintertime calls for a whole new beauty regimen. Not only do you have static-y tresses and chapped lips to worry about, but dull skin, too, (no) thanks to the recent changes in weather and diet over the holidays. Here are our top tips on how to get your skin and hair looking radiant again and staying healthy all season long.
Face Off
You wouldn’t exactly call the redness that comes from freezing windburn a rosy glow. To avoid winter’s “slap in the face,” try layering your skincare products. Start with a hydrating serum to lock in moisture. When that soaks in, use a super-emollient moisturizer with anti-inflammatory antioxidants like green tea. Finally, don’t forget SPF because the sun can still cause damage even if it’s foggy out. If you wake up puffy after a late night out, indulge in a soothing mask with oatmeal and cucumber.
Hair Scare
Winter may give you a break from humidity-inducing frizz, but then you have to deal with the dreaded static that comes from beanies and scarves. Stop the static by spraying a mist of water from an atomizer on locks as soon as you remove your hat. Or, skip the shampoo every other wash and begin using a weekly leave-in conditioner to ensure your hair is super moisturized. Also, if you aren’t already on the argan oil bandwagon by now, it’s the perfect time to jump on. Products with argan oil are a wintertime staple – the vitamins and omegas smooth hair almost instantaneously.
Lip Smacker
Did you know that your lips don’t have sweat glands? That means that they don’t produce oil, either. Hint: time for some seriously hydrating lip treatment. Eschew flavored options (you’ll end up just licking your lips and making them drier) for an oil-based balm. Need a little color? Try a lipstick with castor oil or shea butter for a healing boost.
Moisture is your best friend this winter, so add all the oils and hyaluronic acids you can to your beauty regimen to keep your skin supple no matter how dry and cold the air is.
