Halloween is the spookiest holiday. Children delight in tricks, treats and outrageous costumes. Why should the kiddies have all the fun? Mom and Dad can get in on the action, too, creating infectiously fun decorations for the home that will put the BOO into the holiday for spirits both young and old.
Put Some Scream in Your Color Scheme
Are orange, black and white not part of your home’s color palette? There are easy ways to embrace Halloween hues for the season. Try draping white sheets over sofas and loungers for that haunted house feel. Switch out your window treatments for a month with black cloth blinds, or hang black cloth napkins over lampshades. Add orange accents such as plates, napkins, tablecloths and candles around your home to achieve that perfect Halloween vibe.
Add Spooky Accents to Your Décor
Make use of easily available window decals such as ghosts and haunted house scenes. They peel on and off, can be used and then reused another year, store easily and cause zero damage. Add in stretchy, Halloween-themed paper garland and streamers that can be draped across windows or hung from any wall. Make cobwebs out of cheesecloth from a cooking store, or use the available cotton version. Rip and shred and place them anywhere. Hang a bat mobile by stringing rubber bats from a window or doorframe. Take a few large rubber insects and place them creepily crawling up any wall. Purchase some glowing or googly eyeballs and put them on mirrors for that “being watched” feel.
Creep Outside
Turn your home into a haunted house by adding tombstones, skeletons and pumpkins to your lawn. Take the fuss out of pumpkin carving by purchasing real-looking, pre-carved beauties that even work with battery operated “candles.” Hang orange string lights outside of your home for that boo-tiful finishing touch.
Make your home decorating activities all about enjoying the holiday and celebrating the witchy-poo in you!
